Girls Basketball: Pioneers cruise past Monroe for second straight win
The Pioneer girls’ basketball team scored 23 first-quarter points and steamrolled to a 61-16 victory Friday night at Monroe in an SEC Red Division contest. The Pioneers improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Pioneer led 44-10 at halftime and then slammed on the brakes.
Felicia Stewart led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points. The senior scored six points in the first quarter and seven in the second quarter. Junior Mya Hicks had another strong offensive showing with nine points, including two triples.
Senior Jackie Brines had eight points, including two triples in the first half. Junior Brein Bogan and sophomore Kayla Covington each scored seven points. Junior Lauren DeWolf had five points and sophomore K’Dia Harris knocked down a triple in the second quarter.
The Pioneers play at Saline on Tuesday night and then face Bedford on Friday in their first home game of the season.
