Girls Basketball: Pioneers bounce back with victory over Monroe

After falling behind 6-5 after one quarter, the Pioneer girls’ basketball team got the offense rolling with 12 points in the second quarter and 14 more in the third to score a 39-29 win over visiting Monroe in an SEC Red match-up on Tuesday night.

Pioneer led 17-10 at halftime before outscoring the Trojans 14-9 in the third quarter.  Monroe outscored Pioneer 10-8 in the final period.

The sophomores got it done in the scorebook for the home team.

Sophomore Lauren DeWolf scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the second half. Sophomore Alexis Clark had 12 points and sophomore Mya Hicks hit two triples for six points. Sophomore Brien Bogan hit a three-pointer in the first quarter for Pioneer.

The Pioneers have a big game on Friday with Huron. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at Huron.
