Girls Basketball: Huron, Pioneer on collision course at Lincoln Districts
There were clearly two outstanding basketball teams in the SEC White Division and a few solid programs fighting for the top spot in the SEC Red Division this season in girls hoop.
Dexter and Chelsea split during the regular season – their only losses of the season in league play. Huron won the SEC Red Division with a victory last week over a strong Pioneer team, beating out a very good Saline club for first place.
Bedford was another very good team in the SEC Red.
But this coming week begins a new beginning for all the teams – the postseason. And it should be a fun ride with plenty of competitive games on the schedule.
SEC Red champion Huron faces Ypsilanti in the first round of the District 18 playoffs at Lincoln. The River Rats will tip off the postseason at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 2.
The winner will take on Pioneer at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4 in what should be an exciting semifinal matchup.
The other side of the Lincoln bracket has Saline playing Belleville with the winner taking on Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.
The Lincoln finals are at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6.
Dexter heads to Brighton for the Division 1 District 17 playoffs. The Dreadnaughts open play with Pinckney at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 2. Dexter just defeated the Pirates 64-48 on Tuesday.
The winner of Dexter-Pinckney will face South Lyon East (12-7) in a semifinal game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.
The other side of the Brighton District has South Lyon (1-18) facing a very strong Brighton (17-2) team in the opener on Monday. The winner will play Skyline in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
