Girls Basketball: FGR uses quick start to knock off Skyline

The Father Gabriel Richard girls’ basketball team headed out of its conference on Thursday night but not out of the city as the Fighting Irish travelled to Skyline to take on the Eagles.

FGR built an 18-3 lead over the young Eagles and never looked back in a 54-26 victory. The Irish improve to an impressive 9-2 on the season.

FGR lead 32-11 at halftime and outscored Skyline 13-2 in the third quarter before Skyline went on a 13-9 run to close out the game.

“We are trying to learn how to play without Savannah Wing (out with a sprained ankle the last week) and we are finally having girls step up,” said FGR Coach Tim Cain. “It was nice to get a pretty good lead and get some girls in.

“I was impressed with how Skyline played in the fourth quarter. They have a never give up attitude.”

Ten different players scored for FGR lead by Sophia Hogan and Rileigh Garbarz with 10 points each
