Football Preview: River Rats “hungry” for tough opening-night challenge
Huron football coach Antaiwn Mack believes in full-time effort, and that means no short cuts.
Mack has a quote from Eric Thomas at the bottom of his email: “Success Is Never On Discount. Greatness Is Never On Sale. Greatness Is Never Half Off.”
Mack also isn’t into excuses, and even though Huron has the tough task of opening against Saline, and the Hornets already have a game under its belt, the River Rats will be ready to compete from the opening kick to the final whistle.
Saline opened its season with a 33-7 win last Friday night over Ypsilanti.
“We look hungry,” Mack says when describing his team. “We look like we are starting to gel and come together as a team. Our team speed looks very good. We need to be more consistent to be ready for our first opponent.”
It’s going to be a tough task. Saline has made the postseason a regular part of its schedule and defeated Huron 52-8 last year.
Mack begins his second season as coach of the River Rats. Huron ended a long losing streak last season to start the year but then lost eight straight. They finished 0-6 in the tough SEC.
Top returning players include: senior Brandon Rawls (LB); senior Kingsley Perkins (DE/WR); senior Devotion Traylor (WR/LB); senior Desmond Thomas-Hill (LB/OG); senior Tyson Edmondson (QB); sophomore Torrence Greene (WR/DB); sophomore Jamil Thomas (RB/SS); senior Jaylin Matthews (RB/DB); and sophomore Adam Samaha (K).
Top incoming players include junior Koen Entringer (WR/FS); senior Jack Bailey (QB); junior Anthony Pinnace (athlete); junior Brandon Johnson (WR/DB); and sophomore Bruce Williams (DL/OG).
The Hornets play at Pioneer on Oct. 2.
