Football: FGR makes Division 5 playoffs; face Whitmore Lake in opener
Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard won its last game of the season over Pontiac but fell one game short of the automatic six wins needed to make the postseason.
In the end, it didn’t matter.
The Fighting Irish fought their way into the postseason with a 5-4 record and will see a familiar team on the other side of the field.
FGR (5-4) will play at Whitmore Lake (7-2) in a Division 5 District 1 Region 4 game. The two teams met on Sept. 27 with the Irish winning 22-20.
The Irish started on a roll winning four of their first five games. FGR lost four of their next five before crushing Pontiac 58-6.
Whitmore Lake won its last four games after falling to FGR including finishing the season with a 41-6 win over Livonia Clarenceville. After scoring just 20 points against the Irish, the Trojans scored 212 points in their final four games.
The other game in the District features Dundee (5-4) vs. Dearborn Heights Robichaud (7-2).
