Football: Concordia’s Alex Hinojosa named MSFA’s Defensive Player of the Week
The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League announced the weekly awards Monday afternoon and Alex Hinojosa (JR/Allen Park, MI) has been named the defensive player of the week. The junior standout anchored the Cardinals defensive line and unit recording 9 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a lost, and 1 sack.
The Cardinals defensive unit limited the Panthers to -17 rushing yards and only 146 total yards of offense. Playing defensive end for the Cardinals Hinojosa recorded a career high 9 tackles with 3 solo tackles and 6 assisted tackles. The 2.5 tackles for a loss totaled 7 yards with the 1 sack pushed the Panthers back 2 yards as well. The Panthers only converted 4 of 16 third down attempts and were prevented from any productivity in the red zone.
This is first time in Hinojosa’s Cardinal career that he has received MSFA Defensive Player of the Week honors and the first Cardinal to be recognized this season as well.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, September 15th when they travel to Olivet Nazarene. Kickoff is set for 2pm.
