Field Hockey: Skyline falls for the first time, Pioneer blanks Huron

The defending state champions have been stung!

Skyline entered Thursday’s game with Saline undefeated in its title defense as the Division 1 State Champions but the Hornets sent them into the loss column for the first time this season. Neither team scored in the first three periods before Saline put two on the board and Skyline one.

Coco Courtright scored for the Eagles with an assist from Morgan Nalepa.

On Monday, Skyline scored a 4-0 win over Dexter. The Eagles scored all four of their goals in the final period. Cami Wiseman had two goals and Courtright and Sadie Schultz each scored once for the winners. Schultz and Chiara Bichakjian had assists for the Eagles.

Skyline (10-1-1) plays at Huron on Monday.

Pioneer

The Pioneers scored three goals in the first period and cruised to a 4-0 win last Monday over rival Huron. The Pioneers added a goal in the final period.

Teddy Tolbert netted two goals for the winners. Natalie Millman and Kate Soldan also scored for the winners Lily Soldan and Grace Grabowski picked up assists for the Pioneers. Maddie Grand and Sarah Huffman combined for the shutout.

The River Rats lost 2-1 on Friday to Pinckney. Huron plays at Dexter on Wednesday.

Pioneer (7-1-1) plays at Saline on Wednesday.
