Field Hockey: Pioneers bounce back from loss with three-game sweep

So this is how you bounce back from a tough loss?

The Pioneer girls’ field hockey entered last week recovering from a 2-1 loss at Dexter the week before – their first loss of the season. Well, you don’t become a state powerhouse by not overcoming a little adversity along the way and highlighting the positives and improving the weaknesses.

Pioneer used the loss the way the program always does – by getting better.

The Pioneers won three games last week by a combined score of 6-1 to improve to 7-1-1 on the season.

The week started with a 3-1 win over Chelsea. The Pioneers led 1-0 after one quarter, 2-0 at halftime and 3-0 before the Bulldogs scored a goal in the final period.

Lila Harlock, Teddy Tolbert and Natalie Millman scored for the Pioneers. Harlock, Millman and Zoe Bormet had assists. Ella Roberts and Maddie Grand combined for the win in the net.

The next day, Pioneer knocked off Saline 2-0. Millman scored both goals in the win while Bormet earned an assist. Roberts went the distance to post the shutout.

Roberts also picked up the shutout in Pioneer’s 1-0 win over Marian the following day as Pioneer played its third game in as many days. Mary Huffman scored the game’s only goal on an assist from Tolbert.

Pioneer plays Forest Hills on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
