Field Hockey: Eagles remain on “the right trajectory” for successful season

The Skyline varsity field hockey team finished a busy week last week with three hard fought games.

In game one, the Eagles defeated Chelsea 1-0. Skyline had several quality chances that were turned away by the Chelsea goaltender, but they took the lead for good as Lauren Courtright found the back of the net assisted by Jessica Courtright.

Annika Jaglan went the distance for the shutout.

The Eagles took care of a physical Hartland team 8-1 at home.

After Hartland took an early lead, the Eagles stormed back with eight straight goals by six different players.

Senior Isabel Stille finished with a goal and three assists on the night. Isabelle was confident that the team would respond after giving up an early goal.

“We did a good job of recognizing that we need to step up the intensity, and play smarter while not backing down,” she said.

To close out the week, the Eagles dropped a close contest to crosstown rival Huron, 4-3.

Despite the loss, coach Nikki Barrett remains optimistic about this group.

“We played with confidence, we trusted each other and played as a team.,” she said. “We are on the right trajectory.”

The JV team had another successful week with convincing wins over Hartland and Huron.

The Eagles lost 5-0 to rival Pioneer on Monday.

Skyline plays at Father Gabriel Richard on Wednesday.
