YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University has received notable rankings in the 2022-2023 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges edition. Three of Eastern’s academic areas were highlighted in the publication’s rankings, reflecting the University’s commitment to delivering high-performing academic programs and quality research.
The U.S. News and World Report rankings recognized the following University programs and initiatives:
- Undergraduate engineering programs were ranked 87th out of 230 universities, representing an increase of 42 positions from last year’s rankings. Last year was the first year that Eastern was recognized by the publication for its engineering programs. Eastern first launched a mechanical engineering program in 2017. That was followed in 2018 with the addition of the electrical and computer engineering program. Both programs are accredited by ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission. ABET is a non-governmental agency that accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. Just recently, the University introduced a new civil engineering program.
- The undergraduate nursing program was ranked 247th out of 694 programs across the country. This is the second time U.S. News and World Report has recognized the nursing program. EMU started its nursing program in 1971 and graduated its first group of nurses in 1973. Since then, EMU’s School of Nursing has graduated more than 5,000 nurses with either their bachelor’s or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees.
- The University’s Social Mobility ranking in the U.S. News and World Report continues to be a point of pride. Eastern was ranked number two in Michigan and 123rd out of 389 national universities for its efforts to support economically disadvantaged students in addition to enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students who are awarded Pell Grants.
