Detour Ahead: Road construction updates in and around Ann Arbor

Sections of Ashley Street in Downtown Ann Arbor to be Converted to Two-way Traffic on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021; Sections of Kingsley and First Streets in Downtown Ann Arbor to be Converted to Two-way Traffic on Monday, Aug. 16, 2021.

​As a result of the DDA and City of Ann Arbor’s First and Ashley Improvements Project, the traffic patterns on some city streets will be permanently implemented.

Ashley Street between Madison and Miller beginning Monday, Aug. 9, 2021

Ashley Street between Madison Street and Miller Avenue will permanently be changed to allow two-way traffic (northbound and southbound) from Miller Avenue to Madison Street. Sections of Ashley Street north of Miller Avenue and south of Madison Street already allow for two-way traffic.

The following traffic patterns will be permanently implemented beginning Monday, Aug. 16, 2021.

Kingsley Street between Main and First

Kingsley Street between Main Street and First Street will permanently be changed to allow two-way traffic (eastbound and westbound) from Main Street to First Street. Kingsley Street east of Main Street will maintain the existing one-way traffic patterns. First Street west of Kingsley Street will allow for two-way traffic as described below.

First Street between Kingsley and Madison

First Street between Kingsley Street and Madison Street will permanently be changed to allow two-way traffic (northbound and southbound) from Kingsley Street to Madison Street. First Street south of Madison Street already allows for two-way traffic. Kingsley Street east of First Street will allow for two-way traffic as described above.

Permanent signals, signage and pavement markings will be in place to indicate these traffic patterns. Temporary warning signage will also be in place for approximately three months to help increase awareness of the new traffic patterns. To maintain the safety of all, please follow all posted signage.

South Maple Road between Pennsylvania Avenue and Pauline Boulevard: 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9–9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16. Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, South Maple Road between Pennsylvania Avenue and Pauline Boulevard will be closed for pavement work. Northbound South Maple Road traffic will be detoured to eastbound Pauline Boulevard, then northbound Stadium Boulevard then westbound Liberty Street, back to South Maple Road. Southbound​ traffic will be detoured to eastbound Liberty Street, then southbound Stadium Boulevard, then westbound Pauline Boulevard, back to South Maple Road.​

Local access to businesses and driveways will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian traffic on both sides of the road will be maintained. Emergency vehicles will need to follow the detour.
