Detour Ahead: Road construction updates in and around Ann Arbor
Packard Street Asphalt Path Between Stone School Road and Independence Boulevard: Monday, June 14, at 7 a.m.– Friday, June 25, at 8 p.m. Beginning Monday, June 14, 2021, an intermittent lane closure will be in place on Packard Street in the northerly bound direction with traffic shifted into the center turn lane. Flagging operations will also be utilized during these lane shifts. Work is expected to be completed by Friday, June 25, 2021, weather permitting.
In addition, pedestrian traffic will be shifted to the opposite side of the street.
North Main Street at Lake Shore Drive: Monday, June 14, at 7 a.m.–Friday, July 9, at 8 p.m. The city’s contractor, Bailey Excavating Inc., will be installing new storm sewer at the intersection of North Main Street and Lake Shore Drive and then repaving the intersection. The work will occur weekdays between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The work will occur in two phases to maintain one lane of travel on North Main Street in each direction throughout the duration of the project.
Ashley Street at Liberty Street: Tuesday, June 15–Wednesday, June 16
Ashley Street at Washington Street: Wednesday, June 16–Monday, June 21
Ashley Street will be closed at the intersection of Liberty Street and Washington Street to allow for streetscape improvements as part of the DDA/city’s First and Ashley Improvements Project. More information can be found at http://www.peoplefriendlystreets.org/first-and-ashley-project/
Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021:
Ashley Street and Liberty Street will be closed leading up to the intersection of Ashley and Liberty. Vehicles traveling northbound on Ashley Street will be detoured east on William Street, then north on Fourth Avenue, then west on Huron Street back to Ashley Street. Vehicles traveling eastbound on Liberty Street will be detoured south on First Street, then east on William Street, then north on Fourth Avenue back to Liberty Street. Vehicles traveling westbound on Liberty Street will be detoured north on Fourth Avenue, then west on Huron Street, then south on First Street back to Liberty Street.
Local traffic will be maintained on Ashley and Liberty, and local businesses will remain open and accessible. Pedestrian through-traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times.
This is a one-day closure and work is expected to be completed by 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 and the intersection reopened to westbound vehicle traffic on Liberty and northbound vehicle traffic on Ashley. Eastbound vehicle traffic on Liberty is expected to remain closed until Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Ashley Street and Washington Street will be closed to through traffic leading up to the intersection of Ashley and Washington. Vehicles traveling northbound on Ashley Street will be detoured east on William Street, then north on Fourth Avenue, then west on Huron Street back to Ashley Street. Vehicles traveling eastbound on Washington Street will be detoured south on First Street, then east on William Street, then north on Fourth Avenue back to Washington Street. Vehicles traveling westbound on Washington Street will be detoured north on Fourth Avenue, then west on Huron Street, then south on First Street back to Washington Street. Local traffic will be maintained on Ashley and Washington, and local businesses will remain open and accessible. Pedestrian through-traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times.
This work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2021, and the intersection reopened to eastbound vehicle traffic on Washington and northbound vehicle traffic on Ashley. Westbound vehicle traffic on Washington is expected to remain closed until Saturday, July 31, 2021.
Geddes Road Water Main Project, Geddes Road from Huron Parkway to Earhart Road: Wednesday, June 16–Friday, Sept. 10. Beginning on Wednesday, June 16, both directions of Geddes Road will be closed at Earhart Road with only eastbound vehicle lanes open to local traffic between Huron Parkway and Earhart Road. Westbound traffic will be routed north on Earhart Road, west on Glazier Way, and south on Huron Parkway to Geddes Road. Eastbound thru traffic will be detoured north on Huron Parkway, east on Glazier Way, and south on Earhart Road to Geddes Road.
