Detour Ahead: Emergency road closure for water main break and other updates
West Huron River Drive: Friday, May 28, 2021. On Friday afternoon, West Huron Drive was closed between Brid Road and Warrington due to a water main break. Crews are on site to make repairs. Drivers should avoid the area.

Fuller Court from Fuller Road to 2250 Fuller Court. Monday, April 19, at 7 a.m.– Friday, June 18, at 7 p.m. Beginning on Monday, April 12, the eastbound lane of Fuller Court from Fuller Road to the 2000 block of Fuller Court will be closed as part of the Fuller Court Sidewalk Gap Project . Vehicles travelling eastbound on Fuller Court will be detoured along Fuller Road around the north side of the VA hospital.
Ashley Street approaching Liberty Street (May 24-28, 2021) and Liberty approaching Ashley Street (May 24-June 1, 2021). Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2021, Ashley Street and Liberty Street will be closed leading up to the intersection of Ashley and Liberty to allow for streetscape improvements.
Vehicles traveling northbound on Ashley Street will be detoured east on William Street, then north on Fourth Avenue, then west on Huron Street back to Ashley Street. Vehicles traveling eastbound on Liberty Street will be detoured south on First Street, then east on William Street, then north on Fourth Avenue back to Liberty Street. Vehicles traveling westbound on Liberty Street will be detoured north on Fourth Avenue, then west on Huron Street, then south on First Street back to Liberty Street.
Local traffic will be maintained on Ashley and Liberty, and local businesses will remain open and accessible. Pedestrian through-traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times.
By 5 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021, the intersection will be reopened to northbound vehicle traffic on Ashley; by 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the intersection will be reopened to westbound vehicle traffic on Liberty. Eastbound vehicle traffic on Liberty is expected to remain closed until Saturday, July 31 , 2021.
Liberty Street — Eastbound closure from First Street to Main Street (Thursday, March 25–Saturday, July 31)
Washington Street — Westbound closure from Main Street to First Street (Saturday, March 27–Saturday, July 31)
The intersections of Ashley/Liberty and Ashley/Washington will be closed as described below to allow for streetscape, paving and utility improvements as part of the Downtown Development Authority/City of Ann Arbor’s First and Ashley Improvements Project.
Temporary Construction Traffic Control Plan:
Beginning 7 a.m. Monday, March 25:
- Liberty Street will be closed to eastbound traffic from First Street to Main Street to allow for streetscape improvements at the Ashley Street intersection and in anticipation of street closures to support outdoor dining. Vehicles traveling eastbound on Liberty Street will be detoured south on First Street, east on William Street, and north on Fourth Avenue back to Liberty Street. Local traffic will be maintained between First Street and Fourth Avenue. Through traffic on Ashley Street will be maintained as well as westbound (left) turns onto Liberty Street. This work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, and the road reopened to vehicle traffic.
Beginning 7 a.m. Saturday, March 27:
- Washington Street will be closed to westbound traffic from Main Street to First Street to allow for streetscape improvements at the Ashley Street intersection and in anticipation of street closures to support outdoor dining. Vehicles traveling westbound on Washington Street will be detoured north on Fourth Avenue, west on Huron Street, and south on First Street back to Washington Street. Local traffic will be maintained between Fourth Avenue and First Street. Through traffic on Ashley Street will be maintained. This work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, and the road reopened to vehicle traffic.
Ashley area road work: First Street and Kingsley Street from Miller to Ashley — Monday, March 8 – Friday, July 9.Ashley Street from Liberty to Huron — Lane closures Monday, March 8– Saturday, July 31
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, March 8:
- First Street and Kingsley Street will be closed from Ashley Street to Miller Street to allow for utility installations and paving. Vehicles traveling westbound on Kingsley Street will be detoured south on Ashley Street, then west on Miller Avenue back to First Street. Local traffic will be maintained between Ashley St and Miller Ave. This work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, and the road reopened to vehicle traffic.
- Ashley Street will be open to only one lane of traffic travelling north from just south of Liberty Street to Huron Street (except from March 11–March 20, as described below). This work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, and the road reopened to all lanes of vehicle traffic.
