Dance Marathon at U-M connects C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital patients with local community

ANN ARBOR – Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan’s (DMUM’s) annual event “Spook-a-Thon” took place last Sunday, Oct 23, 2022, joining the Ann Arbor Community, patients at the University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, and students at the University of Michigan for some Halloween fun! This event, sponsored by Kroger and Delta Airlines, included  pumpkin painting, mummy bowling,pumpkin mini-golfing, and trick-or-treating!.

 Pediatric therapists from Mott Children’s Hospital hosted activities, which included Art Therapy, Music Therapy and Therapeutic Gaming. . All of the money DMUM raises throughout the year goes toward funding pediatric therapies at Mott.

“We are thrilled to have Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan supporting our families through events like Spook-a-thon,” said Luanne Thomas Ewald, chief operating officer of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital. “It’s such a joy to see our Mott therapists and Dance Marathon partner in creative ways to provide opportunities which allow kids to be kids!”

In addition to Mott therapists, University of Michigan student athletes volunteered along with Miss Michigan 2022, Melissa Beyrand.

“This year’s Spook-a-Thon was such a success!,” says DMUM’s Executive Director, Olivia Benson. “It was so great being able to see the DMUM and Ann Arbor community come together to participate in fun fall activities, suit up in our best costumes, and of course enjoy some yummy Halloween candy!”

DMUM will continue to raise critical funds for pediatric therapies at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital this fall and winter, culminating with VictorThon in March 2023. For more information, you can visit dmum.org.
