Cross Country: Skyline boys heading to state finals; Laura O’Brien also makes the cut

Power up your engines, Eagles.

Skyline finished third on Saturday at the DeWitt Regionals to qualify for this Saturday’s State Finals at MIS in Brooklyn. The Eagles scored 85 points and edged Pinckney for the last spot. The Pirates were fourth with 98 points.

Brighton finished first with 50 points while Dexter took second with 56 points.

Hobbs Kessler led the Eagles to the finish line. The junior finished in 15:41.7 to place fifth overall. Senior Thomas Young gave Skyline two top-10 finishers with his tenth-place time of 15:50.5.

Senior Isaac Darragh was 19th in 16:39.6, senior Daniel Evans was fourth in 16:47.5, senior Sam Gardner was 26th in 16:48.9, sophomore Sanjay Rao was 43rd in 17:14.8 and senior Freddy Villalobos was 53rd in 17:24.8.  

Girls

Skyline junior Laura O’Brien finished 10th in 19:09.1 to qualify for the State Finals. The top 15 individuals qualify for the state meet.

The Eagles finished eighth overall with 195 points.
