Cross Country Roundup: Pioneer sweeps Brighton; Skyline girls fall to Saline
Owen Johnson ran first and Pioneer took four of the top six spots as they ran past Brighton 34-22 in a dual-meet on Wednesday in a non-league dual-meet. Johnson, a senior, went 16:12.3 to beat Brighton’s Quinn Cullen (16:18.4) to the finish line.
Junior Henry MonteSano was third (16:30.1) and senior Max Klarman fourth (16:49.2) for the Pioneers.
Junior Fred Wallace was sixth (17:00.5), senior Ben Jakabcsin was eighth (17:10.7), sophomore Roman Cortina was 10th (17:15.0), senior Kevin Dancey was 14th (17:30.1), senior Garrett Kracht was 15th (17:41.3) for Pioneer. Freshman Eric Overdier was 17th (17:46.9) and junior Levi Straszewski was 18th (17:48.7).
Pioneer girls
The Pioneer girls team continued their dominate 2020 with a 22-35 win over Brighton. Pioneer ran six runners in the top nine places.
Junior Cookie Baugh ran first with a time of 18:36.8 – Brighton’s Katie Carothers was a distant second (19:06.6).
Freshman Rachel Forsyth was third (19:42.0), junior Charlotte Batra fifth (20:10.5), senior Anna Dudek sixth (20:14.4), sophomore Emily Cooper seventh (20:30.9), freshman Sylvia Sanok Duffalo ninth (20:46.6), senior Lauren Jamsen 15th (22:07.3) and sophomore Allison Nutt 16th (22:10.0) for the winners.
Skyline girls
The Skyline girls’ cross country had a close race with Saline on Wednesday, falling short 21-36 in an SEC dual-meet at Huron Meadows Metropark.
Skyline senior Laura O’Brien ran third in 20:47.55 for the Eagles.
Sophomore Lydia Cocciolone was fifth (21:12.26), sophomore Natalie Kessler was 10th (21:33.25), senior Sierra Lubetkin was 11th (21:59.15), junior Caitlyn Donnelly was 12th (22:03.35), freshman Audrey Wells was 15th (22:37.17), freshman Celia Begosso was 17th (23:11.6), freshman Madeleine Kauffman was 19th (24:00.03) and sophomore Elizabeth Beck was 20th (24:02.38) for Skyline.
