Cross Country: Regional wrap-up – Skyline girls, Huron’s Paliani land in State Finals

The Skyline girls’ cross country team is travelling across “country” next Saturday to the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals at MIS after finishing second at Saturday’s Regional at Huron Meadows Metropark. The Eagles finished with 117 points, second only to champion Brighton’s 63 points.

South Lyon East took third with 125 points, just two better than Howell (127) and 14 better than Dexter (139) in a tight race for that important third spot. The top three teams from each Regional qualifies for the State Finals, along with the top seven individuals from non-qualifying teams.

The Dreadnaughts had one runner just make it and another just miss the cut.

Dexter freshman Alena Blumberg qualified after finishing 13th overall in 19:25.9 which put her seventh best from non-qualifying teams. Dexter senior Amanda McGill placed 16th overall (19:47.2) and missed running next weekend by just two spots.

The Eagles had two runners, both juniors, land in the top 10 and three in the top 15. Caroline Vance was seventh (19:10.8) and Natalie Kessler finished ninth (19:13.6) while sophomore Allison Mayer was 15th (19:31.6).
