Cross Country: Pioneers sweep Huron in SEC dual-meet race
The Pioneer boys’ cross country team had the first four runners cross the finish line in a dual-meet with city rival Huron on Saturday at Pioneer. The Pioneers won 16-44 to remain undefeated in the SEC.
At the head of the line was Owen Johnson. The Pioneer junior took first place in 16:06.2.
Pioneer junior Henry MonteSano was second (16:09.00), senior Max Klarman was third (16:54.3) and junior Fred Wallace ran fourth (17:00.00) for the dominant Pioneers.
Junior Matt Ruud was sixth (17:24.2), junior Levi Straszewski ran eighth (17:30.2), senior Kevin Dancey was 10th (17:41.8), freshman Vincent Peterson Sand was 11th (17:42.9), senior Collin Melnykowycz was 12th (17:44.3) and senior Garrett Kracht was 13th (17:46.6).
The River Rats were led by senior Michael Hill-Carruthers who took fifth place in 17:19.8.
Senior Peter Stenger was seventh (17:30.1), senior Donovan Smith was ninth (17:39.3), freshman Lucas Weintraub was 14th (17:52.3) and senior Evan Ridenour was 16th (18:22.3) for Huron.
Girls
Huron freshman Sonya Shelgikar took first place in 21:48.2 for the River Rats, but the Pioneers took the next seven spots in a 20-43 victory to remain undefeated on the season.
Pioneer senior Lauren Jamsen was second (22:15.5), freshman Mia Berens was third (22:16.8), sophomore Allison Nutt was fourth (22:21.2), freshman Lydia Bowman was fifth (22:53.5), junior Paige Hockley ran sixth (23:24.6), junior Mara Krupka was seventh (23:26.5) and senior Genna Novara was eighth (23:27.8).
Huron senior Rose Basch was ninth (23:45.3), junior Mari Park was 13th (24:62.2) and freshman Amelia Wu was 18th (25:39.1) for the River Rats.
Earlier in the week, Pioneer edged Plymouth 27-28 in a non-league dual meet at Pioneer. Freshman Rachel Forsyth took first in 18:36.6 for the Pioneers.
Junior Cookie Baugh was third (18:44.8), sophomore Emily Cooper ran sixth (20:36.4), junior Charlotte Batra was eighth (20:45.7), senior Anna Dudek was ninth (20:51.1), sophomore Allison Nutt was 11th (21:45.5), senior Lauren Jamsen was 12th (21:46.7) and freshman Sylvia Sanok Dufallo was 14th (22:02.9) for the Pioneers.
