Cross Country: FGR girls place third at Regionals, head to MIS

Next stop, Brooklyn.

The Father Gabriel Richard girls’ cross country team finished third at Saturday’s Division 2 Regional at Lake Erie Metropark to qualify for Friday’s State Finals at MIS in Brooklyn.

Chelsea ran first with 49 points followed by Divine Child (53) and the Irish (61). Tecumseh was fourth, just 10 points behind FGR. Grosse Ile was fifth with 148 points.

The Irish had four runners land in the top 15 spots.

Leading the way was junior Gianna Hoving, who ran first overall in 19:56.9. She won by a few steps over Tecumseh’s Kaitlin Knape (20:02.4).

Sophomore Gianna-Marie Schubert was eighth (20:45.7), freshman Erin Stuk was 14th (21:04.7) and senior Izzie Lashaway was 15th (21:10.8).

Sophomores Elise Bodary (32nd, 22:03.6), Clare Miller (46th, 22:54.9) and Anna Hale (62nd, 24:17.7) all ran well for the Irish to help them qualify for states.

In the boys’ race, FGR’s Kenny Lashaway ran his way to the state finals on Friday. The senior finished 14th at Regionals with a time of 17:13.2 to qualify.
