Crew: Skyline finishes first at Head of the North in TC
After a nice warm-up on the Huron River earlier in the month, the Skyline crew team headed north for this past weekend’s Head of the North in Traverse City. The popular event, hosted by the Traverse City Tritons, was the Eagles’ final fall race.
“It was a wonderful way to end the fall season and get our athletes motivated for winter training and the spring sprint season,” said Skyline Coach Kit Bennett.
Head of the North featured seven teams: Skyline, Pioneer, Northville, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Lake Leelanau and East Grand Rapids.
The Eagles left the fall behind in style – winning the Women’s and Combined Points trophies. The Pioneers also had a strong showing, winning the Men’s Trophy – which came down to the final race.
Skyline finished with 372 points to take first in the Combined Points. Pioneer was second (300) and Northville third (165).
The Eagles women finished first with 212 points with Pioneer second (120) and East Grand Rapids third (95).
In the men’s race, Pioneer won with 160 points, 15 points ahead of Skyline. Northville was third with 105 points.
