County Health Department offering free COVID-19 testing Saturday, Sept. 26

YPSILANTI – Washtenaw County Health Department recently announced a pop-up testing opportunity on Saturday, Sept. 26 in Ypsilanti from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Testing is free to anyone. No symptoms required. No insurance needed. Registration is requested HERE.

Saturday, Sept 26 at the Ypsilanti District Library at 5577 Whittaker Road. Testing available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Please register in advance and do not line up early. The National Guard will be present to assist with testing, as they have done at prior events in Washtenaw and across Michigan. Results are expected in 3 to 4 days after testing but may take up to 7 days.

“Coronavirus is still circulating in our community, and free testing for everyone remains important,” says Jimena Loveluck, MSW, health officer for Washtenaw County. “Since there is at least some risk any time you’re out in public or interacting with others, we must continue to use the tools we have to reduce the spread of illness and prevent as many cases as possible. That means continuing to use face coverings, maintain 6ft distance, clean hands frequently and following all Health Department guidance, if you test positive or are exposed to a positive case.”

Seek immediate testing if you have symptoms. If you were potentially exposed but remain symptom free, the Health Department recommends self-quarantine and waiting at least 7 to 10 days before testing. Remember symptoms may take up to 14 days after exposure to appear, and individuals are considered contagious two days before symptoms appear.

Anyone getting testing should stay away from others until they get their results. Anyone with symptoms should stay home unless they are getting medical care and limit all contact with others in their household.

The number of local cases, guidance for employers, prevention information, testing options and more are available at www.washtenaw.org/covid19. Health Department staff are also available to answer questions. Leave a message at 734-544-6700 or email l-wchdcontact@washtenaw.org.
