City Happenings & Updates: Construction to begin in September at Huron Hills Golf Course
Ann Arbor Farmers Market
Saturday, Aug. 29, the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, 315 Detroit St., is open for onsite sales, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. (and on Wednesday, Sept. 2). Shoppers will find all sorts of late-summer gems like peaches, watermelons, blueberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, apples, all kinds of vegetables, herbs, flowers, plants, meat, eggs, cheese, bread, honey, baked goods, coffee, hot sauce, pierogis, Mediterranean food, masks, soap, candles, jewelry, textiles and more! Preordering from select vendors continues with curbside or walk-in pick up 7 a.m.-noon. For preorders, contact the vendor directly from our directory. We are accepting cash, and tokens for credit cards and SNAP/EBT/P-EBT are available at our market office window. While shopping and picking up preorders, please follow all physical distancing and safety guidelines posted and communicated by market staff. All vendors and market staff are required to wear masks, and masks are required for customers as well. You’ll find additional information on our website.
Construction slated to begin in September at Huron Hills Golf Course
The City of Ann Arbor has partnered with Washtenaw County to collaborate on a project at Huron Hills Golf Course (HHGC) that will consist of wetland creation and creek restoration to what will formally be called Benz Creek. Currently, there are a number of issues on the golf course, including stream channel erosion, periodic flooding, limited stormwater detention and limited water quality treatment. The many ecological goals include adding stormwater detention, phosphorus reduction and habitat improvement to improve the stormwater impact in the area. From a recreational standpoint, these improvements look to improve design, playability and reduce the impact of rain events to the golf course.
Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 8, 2020. The course will be open throughout construction and will have a varying number of holes available for play. Burns Park tennis court survey results
Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation staff would like to thank the community for participating in a survey regarding the renovation of the Burns Park tennis courts. Based on survey results and comments received, the community strongly favored incorporating permanent pickleball infrastructure in the redesign. The city’s park planners will present the community feedback and recommendation to move forward with Option C at the next Parks Advisory Commission meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m. Go online to view the tennis court layout results from the survey.

Make a FootGolf reservation today – last chance to play in 2020
You’re invited to an end-of-season FootGolf event at Huron Hills Golf Course, Monday, Sept. 7. The rate to play is just $5 per player, and there is a four-person maximum per reservation. You must bring your own ball. Please call 734.794.6246 to reserve a time. FootGolf will not be offered in 2021 due to a construction project at HHGC, so be sure to get out and play by Sept. 7.
Visit Every Park (VEP) Challenge
The last set of featured parks of the week can be found online. Learn about the features of these parks and complete an optional activity challenge. These may be physical activities, or something more creative, but still providing fun for everyone. Find all six letters and unscramble them to reveal the hidden word. If you know what it spells, we will get a prize to you. If you’ve been competing in the VEP Challenge and keeping track of your progress, we’d love to hear how you’re doing.
