Celebrate Earth Day Online with Events 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. April 22

April 20, 2020 – ​The annual Earth Day Festival has been cancelled, but the celebration lives on! The City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations and GIVE 365, on behalf of the Earth Day Festival Committee and in partnership with the A2Zero initiative, invite you to celebrate Earth Day all day long on Wednesday, April 22.

The schedule of events on Wednesday, April 22 include:

  • 9 a.m. Mayor Christopher Taylor kicks off the event!
    • ​Introduction of GIVE 365, Office of Sustainability and Innovations and A2Zero.
    • History of Earth Day and Ann Arbor’s involvement.
  • 9:30-10 a.m. Ann Arbor 2030 District: A Path to Carbon Neutrality by Jan Culbertson, FAIA.
  • 10-10:30 a.m. Leslie Science & Nature Center: Nature’s Recyclers by Lannis Smith.
  • 10:30-11 a.m. Washtenaw Climate Reality Project presented by Kris Olsson.
  • 11-11:30 a.m. Solarize Power Hour: Learn how rooftop solar works as well as the costs and environmental benefits by Julie Roth and Josh McDonald.
  • 11:30 a.m.-noon Music selection by Amy Petty.
  • Noon-12:30 p.m. Lean and Green, PACE Financing presented by Christian Koch.
  • 12:30-1 p.m. Veridian at County Farm and the Living Community Challenge presented by Matt Grocoff, Esq., LFA, LEED-GA.
  • 1-1:30 p.m. Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum presents: Wind Energy by Rebecca Petrone.
  • 2-2:30 p.m. Music selection by Nadim Azzam.
  • 2:30-3:30 p.m. Youth Panel: “What Gives You Hope on Earth Day?” Moderator Kristen Hayden will be joined by panelists Naina Agrawal-Hardin, Yongxin Zheng, Annie Chen, Zaynab Elkolaly, Tegwyn John, Dim Mang, Sofia Csaszar, Dhruv Tatke, Illina Krishnen and Sam Berkooz.
  • 3:30-4 p.m. Sustainability trivia.
  • 4-4:30 p.m. Natural Area Preservation and Integrated Pest Management presentation.
  • 4:30-5 p.m. Carbon Fee and Dividend presentation by Ann Arbor Citizens Climate Lobby and A2Zero.
  • 5-5:30 p.m. Earth Day BINGO.
  • 5:30-6 p.m. Why and How Elders Are Getting Involved — an interview with Geri Freedman from Ann Arbor Area Elders Climate Action.
  • 6-8 p.m. (Movie) The Story of Plastic: Washtenaw Climate Reality Project and panel discussion.
  • 8 p.m. Coert Ambrosino reads the children’s book, Mama Miti.
