Boys Track & Field: Local teams cross the finish line at D-1 State Finals
The local boys’ track and field teams competed in the MHSAA Division 1 State Championships in Rockford on Saturday and there were some impressive individual performances.
U-D Jesuit finished first in the team standings with 41 points, followed by Farmington (31), Clinton Chippewa Valley (29) and East Kentwood (29). Huron finished tied for 20th place with Dexter with 13 points.
Huron junior Braxton Brann was fourth in the 100 meters (11 seconds) and second in the 200 meters (21.87). Huron freshman Kamren Flowers ran a time of 22.45 in the prelims.
In the 1600 meters, Pioneer senior Owen Johnson finished sixth in 4:11.95 and Skyline junior Nicolas Fry was 13th in 4:21.69. In the 3200 meters, Johnson placed 11th (9:22.49) and Fry was 16th (9:36.39).
Pioneer senior Jaivon Smith was ninth (15.47) in the 110 hurdles and ran 15th (41.35) in the 300 hurdles.
Huron’s 4×100 relay team of Brann, Kamren Flowers, Tyler Bivens and Torrence Greene was 26th in 47.86.
In the 4×800 relay, Skyline’s team of Sanjay Rao, Fry, Christopher Van Lent and Aidan Hale was eighth in 7:56.26. Pioneer (Johnson, Eric Overdier, Matt Ruud and Vincent Peterson Sand) was ninth in 7:57.25.
