Boys Regional Track & Field: Pioneer runs third, Huron fourth at Saline
The local boys’ track and field teams competed in the Regional 4 championships on Friday at Saline High School. In addition to the team scores, individuals and relay teams were competing to see who would qualify for the State Championships on June 4.
In the team scores, Saline ran first with 118 points followed by Dexter with 89.5. Pioneer took third (82.4), Huron was fourth (68.5) and Monroe fifth (61). Skyline was eighth with 39.5 points out of 13 teams.
Huron junior Braxton Brann won the 100 meters (10.44 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.26). Huron freshman Kamren Flowers was third (10.68) in the 100 and fourth (22.20) in the 200.
In the 800 meters, Huron senior Lev Nakamura was third (2:00.15).
Pioneer senior Owen Johnson won the 800 meters in 4:26.02 and Huron junior Nicolas Fry was a close second in 4:28.80. The two went one-two again in the 3200 meters with Johnson first (9:46.27) and Fry second (9:49.10).
Pioneer senior Jaivon Smith was second (15.04) in the 110 hurdles and ran first (40.82) in the 300 hurdles. Pioneer’s Connor Casey was third (41.56) in the 300 hurdles.
Huron’s 4×100 relay team of Brann, Flowers, Tyler Bivens and Torrence Greene was second in 43.49.
Pioneer (Johnson, Fred Wallace, Matt Ruud and Eric Overdier) was first in 8:02.92 and Huron (Sanjay Rao, Fry, Christopher Van Lent and Leland Weiser) was second in 8:05.25 in the 4×800 relay.
Skyline sophomore was third in the discus (135 feet, 11 inches).
