Boys CC: Skyline runs sixth, Pioneer seventh at Portage Invite

Three SEC Red Division teams finished in the top seven and another placed 15th at the highly competitive Portage Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Northville crossed the finish line in first place with 127 points followed by Saline (185), TC Central (204), Brighton (216) and Portage Central (216).

Skyline finished in sixth place with 278 points with Pioneer right behind in seventh with 283. Grand Haven was a step behind in eighth with 286. Dexter finished with 400 points to land 15th overall in the 32-team field featuring some of the best programs in the state.

Skyline’s Nicolas Fry continues his very strong season for the Eagles. The senior finished seventh overall with a time of 15:40.4. Junior Luke Suliman ran 23rd with a time of 16:03.6. Junior Mason Jett was 34th (16:17.7), senior Christopher Van Lent was 72nd (16:50.7), senior Aidan Hale was 148th (17:45.9), and senior Soren Nielsen was 178th (18:10.9).

Junior Eric Overdier had a brilliant run for the Pioneers. His time of 16:20.8 landed him 38th overall in the tough field. Junior Vincent Peterson Sand finished 51st in 16:37.0 and senior Thomas Kerber was 57th in 16:39.4. Senior Roman Cortina was 66th (16:45.1), junior Aaron Sterken finished 76th (16:58.0), senior Andrew Grier was 89th (17:09.3) and senior Chase Klapthor was 109th (17:19.2).

Dexter Brandon Anderson led the Dreadnaughts across the finish line. The junior placed 19th overall with a time of 15:59.4. Senior Owen Ackerman continued his strong season with a time of 16:29.0 to finish in 46th place for the Dreads. Also running strong for Dexter were junior Sam Gibson (98th, 17:14.5), senior Alex Hoffman (115th, 17:24.3), sophomore Caleb Snyder (127th, 17:29.9), senior Rylan Teddy (158th, 17:50.6), and sophomore Scott Smith (184th, 18:15.4).
