Boys CC: Skyline, Pioneer land in State Finals after strong showing at Regionals  

Skyline’s Nicolas Fry finished first to help the Eagles cross the finish line first at Saturday’s Division 1 Regional at Hudson Meadows in Brighton and earn a spot at the MHSAA State Finals on Saturday in Brooklyn.

The Eagles won a close race to the flag with Brighton. Skyline crossed with 54 points, just two points ahead of the Bulldogs (56). Dexter also qualified for the state finals with 97 points to take third overall. Hartland was fourth (102) and Davison fifth (177) in the 15-team field.

Fry, a senior, won the race with a time of 15:52.4, just ahead of Brighton’s Brady Matuszewski (15:54.4). Dexter’s Brandon Anderson was there at the finish line too with his third-place time of 15:55.3.

Skyline had three other runners land in the top 10 with junior Luke Suliman (sixth, 16:14.4), junior Mason Jett (seventh, 16:14.9), and senior Christopher Van Lent (ninth, 16:23.6).  Senior Aidan Hale was 31st (17:22.1), senior Soren Nielsen was 56th (17:59.0) and freshman Zeke Lafferty was 81st (19:10.5).

Pioneer

The Pioneer boys’ cross country team is headed to MIS.

The Pioneers finished with 48 points to place second at Saturday’s Division 1 boys’ cross country Regional at Milan High School. Saline took first overall with 27 points. Monroe was third (101) and Allen Park fourth (107) in the 10-team field.

The MHSAA State Finals are Saturday at MIS in Brooklyn.

Pioneer had four runners finish in the top 10: junior Vincent Peterson Sand was sixth (16:11.30), junior Eric Overdier was seventh (16:22.55), senior Roman Cortina ran ninth (16:25.80 and senior Thomas Kerber crossed 10th (16:26.44). Senior Andrew Grier was 16th (16:41.50), senior Chase Klapthor was 17th (16:41.92) and freshman Beckett Crooks was 20th (16:53.23).

Huron

The Huron boys’ cross country team took sixth at Saturday’s Regional at Huron Meadows in Brighton. The River Rats finished with 154 points.

Senior Adam Bigelow finished 19th overall with a time of 16:26.20 to qualify for Saturday’s MHSAA State Finals.

Junior Lucas Weintraub was 23rd (16:36.60), sophomore Jonah Kraft was 33rd (17:03.20), sophomore Walker Brose was 35th (17:05.00), junior Henry Beard was 44th (17:18.60), junior Liam Ridenour was 56th (18:15.80) and senior Devin Saxon was 70th (19:19.51).
