Boys Basketball: Skyline only local team still playing in Division 1 postseason

The Skyline Boys Basketball Team defeated South Lyon 63-35 on Wednesday 3/9.

The Skyline boys’ basketball team advanced to the District finals with a resounding 63-35 win over South Lyon in a semifinal game Wednesday at Skyline. The Eagles will face Brighton in the championship game at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs defeated Dexter 38-36 in the other semifinal game.

With Pioneer falling to Saline on Monday and Huron losing to Lincoln on Wednesday, the Eagles are the only local team still playing in Division 1.

Skyline got off to a slow start defensively and South Lyon took advantage of some open three-point shots to take an early 6-0 lead. Skyline would also miss some shots early and South Lyon ended the quarter with a 13-10 lead.

Later in the second quarter, the Eagles would get a few key pressure and steal baskets to build the lead to eight points. South Lyon stole the ball at the end of the quarter and scored to cut Skyline’s lead to 24-18. The Eagles held South Lyon to five points in the quarter.

In the second half, Skyline held onto the defensive intensity with full-court pressure and started making shots to pull away. The Eagles led 40-24 after three quarters.

Ben Stille led the Eagles with 18 points. Sam Koelling had 11 points; Jayden Potts had 7 pts, 4 rebounds and 5 steals; Lucas Lynch had 7 points; Will Gardner had 6 points and 10 rebounds;  and Ish Abdul Aziz had 2 pts, 5 rebounds and 7 assists.
