Boys Basketball: Skyline gets defensive in win over Detroit County Day
The Skyline boys’ basketball team continues to open eyes around the basketball world with the playoffs quickly approaching. The Eagles landed another impressive win on Friday as they knocked off Detroit Country Day 59-43 in a non-league game.
Skyline was able to apply great defensive pressure mixing up half-court traps and man-to-man defense to cause rushed shots and turnovers in the first half. Skyline was able to convert on offense pushing and sharing the ball and making six triples in the first half.
Skyline had a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and pushed it to 38-16 halftime lead.
Country Day started the second half strong, scoring the first five points. But Skyline played solid half-court defense and continued to convert a good percentage on offense to keep a large double-digit lead throughout the second half.
Kabir Bergin (9 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds) made 5 early points but then got into some early foul trouble with 3 fouls in the first half playing only about 6 minutes.
Jack Williams (11 points in the first half) and Jermaine Davis (seven points in the first half) picked up the offense. Williams finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Davis finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Skyline got offensive contributions from six other players; Will Gardner (7 pts), Ashay Arora (6 pts), Dinalli DeLoach (4 pts and 7 rebounds), Cole Streeter (4 pts), Chris Cayton (2 pts and 7 assists) and Trey Eillis (2 pts).
Skyline will travel to Jackson for an SEC crossover on Tuesday for its final regular-season game.
