Boys Basketball: Skyline builds big early lead over Monroe in 68-46 win
The Skyline boys’ basketball team jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter and never let the foot off the gas in a convincing 68-46 win over visiting Monroe on Tuesday night.
The Eagles were able to start strong and continue to build on the lead throughout the game with full-court pressure defense and much better ball movement and player movement on offense.
Skyline led 20-8 after the first quarter and 31-20 at half. Skyline only shot 4 of 17 in the second quarter and could have had a much bigger lead if they knocked down a few more open looks.
Skyline started the third quarter on a quick 5-0 run and continued to build the lead to 49-31 after three quarters. Skyline converted much better in the third on 7 of 16 shooting from the field.
Everyone got to contribute in the game to help lead Skyline to the SEC Red Division victory.
Chris Cayton had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Kabir Bergin had 6 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Jack Williams had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Jermaine Davis had 12 points and 3 rebounds.
Gabe Kellman had many great hustle plays to go with 6 points and 4 rebounds. Also in the score column: Ashay Arora (6 points), Qasim Motan (5) Trey Ellis and Will Gardner (4), Jarrett Sung (3) and James Harrison (2).
Skyline will have a huge home game this coming Friday. It’s a three pack of fun with Valentine’s Day, Senior Night and undefeated crosstown rival Huron in the Skyline gym.
The girls’ game tips off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys’ game at 7 p.m.
