Boys Basketball: Skyline bounces Manchester, travel to Pioneer on Friday
Skyline hosted Manchester on Tuesday and scored a 63-54 win in the non-league game.
The Eagles were not hitting from three-point range in the first quarter and Manchester took advantage of a few Skyline defensive lapses and ended the first quarter with a 13-12 lead.
Skyline found five players in the second quarter, led by Jermaine Davis, to turn up the full-court defensive pressure and attack the basket and built a 44-23 halftime lead.
Manchester, led by senior Ty Horky, was not going to give in during the second half. The third quarter had a little more feel like the first quarter with some trading of baskets and Horky started to heat up scoring eight points in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Skyline started getting careless and Horky scored another 14 points in the fourth quarter finishing with 29 points and did cut the lead to single digits.
Skyline took care of the ball down the stretch and made a few free throws to keep the double-digit lead until a Manchester make at the buzzer.
The Eagles got a huge second quarter from Davis, who scored 14 of his 17 points in the second period, while adding 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Kabir Bergin had a solid game with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Gabe Kellman and James Harrison did a solid job on Horky in the first half only giving up three made field goals.
Chris Cayton and Jack Williams each added nine points. Every player got into the game for Skyline and contributed in the win.
