Boys Basketball: Pioneer wins fourth straight after knocking off Monroe

The Pioneer boys’ basketball team is rolling in the right direction. The Pioneers knocked off host Monroe 68-40 on Tuesday night for the team’s fourth consecutive win.
Pioneer jumped out early, taking a 20-9 lead after the opening quarter. They outscored the Trojans 19-9 in the second quarter to take a 39-18 lead into halftime. Pioneer outscored Monroe 15-8 in the third quarter and each team scored 14 in the final period.
Macail Fly had one of his best games of the season. The senior guard hit 7 of 8 three-point attempts and dropped 23 points on Monroe.
Junior Rasheed Sampson made 5 of 8 shots from the floor and finished with 13 points. He also had six blocks, five rebounds and three assists. Junior Will Fichera had eight points and four rebounds; Mac VanRenterghem had seven points and five assists; Aidan Lee had five points and three steals; and Conor Easthope had five points and six rebounds. Bankaly Camara had three points and six rebounds.
Pioneer made 11 of 20 three-point attempts in the game while Monroe missed all 11 attempts.
Pioneer was coming off a 64-62 overtime win Saturday over White Lake. Fly hit a triple at the buzzer to force overtime where the Pioneers won the game. Koebe Moore, who didn’t play much on Tuesday because of an illness, had 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Pioneer improves to 8-5 overall. They play at No. 1 ranked Huron on Friday as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
