Boys Basketball: Eagles play most complete game of the year in win over Divine Child
Three players hit double figures and the Skyline boys’ basketball team used an early lead to knock off visiting Dearborn Divine Child 74-54 on Wednesday night.
“We played our most complete game over four quarters on both ends of the court,” said Skyline Coach Mike Lovelace. “Divine Child is a pressing team with some good scoring players and we were able to take care of the ball against their press and score while attacking the basket. We also were able to make Divine Child take difficult shots on offense.”
Skyline was able to start strong and then continued to build on the lead throughout the game. The Eagles led 22-12 after one quarter and 37-28 at halftime. Skyline took a 60-46 lead into the final quarter.
Divine Child worked to change up different looks in their press but Skyline was able to take care of the ball well enough to get good scoring opportunities and stretch the lead in the second half.
Skyline shot 60 percent for the game and held Divine Child to 40 percent. The Eagles also out rebounded the Falcons 34-15.
Skyline was led by Sam Koelling (20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists), Ben Stille (17 points and 3 rebounds) and Will Gardner (14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists). Jayden Potts had 5 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists while Lucas Lynch had six points and two rebounds.
Also in the scoring column were Ish Abdub Aziz (2), Kaleb Schlecht (3), Luke Williams (2), James Harrison Jr (2), Aaron Burton (1) and Ahmil Bond (2).
Divine Child was led in scoring by Lorenzo Vitti (18) and Gannon Blair (14).
Skyline plays at Saline on Tuesday.
