Boys Basketball: Eagles fall to Saline in first game since quarantine lockdown

After a lengthy quarantine period, the Skyline boys’ basketball team was back on the court and despite a tough 55-39 loss to visiting Saline, the Eagles were glad to be back playing again.

This was Skyline’s first game since Wednesday, Feb. 17 following a 10-day quarantine on Sunday, Feb 28.

Skyline was led in scoring by Jack Williams with nine points and Ashay Arora with eight points. The Eagles will play at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Divine Child in a non-league game as they try to get back into the groove.

Skyline actually got off to a strong start with good defense and patient offense as the Eagles built an early 16-7 first-quarter lead.

But as the game continued in the second quarter, the Eagles “began having defensive lapses and not paying attention to detail,” said Skyline Coach Mike Lovelace. Saline started to capitalize taking good shots and playing tough defense to take a 25-21 halftime lead.

Skyline came out cold offensively in the third quarter and Saline was able to build a double-digit lead midway through the period. The Hornets headed to the fourth quarter with a 38-30 advantage.

Skyline would start to fight back but were called for the 10th foul of the second half with about 7 minutes left in the fourth quarter while Saline had one foul. Saline shot double-bonus free throws the rest of the way to help seal the victory.
