Boys Basketball: Eagles continue to land in the win column – knock off Lincoln

The Eagles started the game with strong half-court, man-to-man defense – something Skyline is known for – and held Lincoln to 10 first-quarter points. On offense, the Eagles did a good job of spacing the court along  with aggressive drives to the basket. They also did well moving/cutting without the ball to create assists and some easy baskets.

Skyline led 16-10 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Skyline mixed some half-court trap, man defense and zone and continued to hold Lincoln’s offense in check, allowing only eight points. The Eagles also struggled in the second quarter on the offensive end as shots became more difficult.

The Eagles led 24-18 at the break.

The third quarter was all Skyline on both ends of the court. The Eagles mixed defenses and did a better job executing the half-court offense to win the third quarter 22-7 and take control of the game with a 46-25 lead after three.

Skyline continued to build the lead early in the fourth and was able to play everyone down the stretch.

Three players reached double-figures in the win: Sam Koelling had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists; Jayden Potts had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists; and Ben Stille had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists. The Eagles also had contributions from Ish Abdul-Aziz (6 points, 2 rebounds); Will Gardner (4 points, 7 rebounds); James Harrison (5 points, 3 rebounds); Lucas Lynch (4 points); and Ahmil Bond (5 points).

Skyline will host Saline on Friday. The Hornets are coming off a tough loss Tuesday night at Huron.
