Basketball: Pioneer falls to host St. Mary’s Prep in non-league game
A rough second quarter proved costly for the Pioneer boys’ basketball on Wednesday night as they played their first game in 2020 after a long holiday break. Host St. Mary’s Prep outscored the visitors 25-6 in the second quarter and cruised to a 61-44 win in a non-league game.
St. Mary’s shot 23 of 49 from the floor including 6 of 17 from three-point territory. The Pioneers were 12 of 36 overall and just 2 of 12 on three-pointers.
Pioneer had three players in double figures. Koebe Moore led the way with 13 points. Rasheed Sampson (eight rebounds) and Mac Van Renterghem (three assists, two steals) each scored 10.
The Pioneers were coming off a win over Westland John Glenn in the Washtenaw County Showcase at EMU late last month.
Pioneer falls to 3-3 on the season and host a good Dexter team on Friday in an SEC crossover game. The Dreadnaughts have won four straight since dropping their season opener to Salem.
