Basketball: Former Skyline standout Brandon Wade is coming home

Brandon Wade, a Mr. Basketball candidate his senior year at Skyline HS, is coming home. Wade has transferred to the University of Michigan, according to sources, after one year at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. A talented point guard with a great shot and incredible floor instincts, Wade entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this year after one season with the Dukes.

The 6-foot-2 guard from Ann Arbor averaged one point, 0.8 assists and 0.7 rebounds in 27 games in his first collegiate season with the Division 1 school.

Wade, who can soon practice with the Wolverines, will have to sit out this season and then have three years of eligibility remaining.

A four-year starter under Coach Mike Lovelace at Skyline, Wade averaged 23.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.2 assists for 23-1 Sweet 16 regional finalist Skyline as a senior. He shot 43 percent from 3-point and 72.2 percent from the foul line in his final season.

Wade was named First Team Associated Press Class A All-State as a senior and Second Team as a junior.

He scored 23 of his 32 points in the second half – including 17 in the third quarter – in a 73-59 win over Howell in a Class A regional semifinal. He also scored 29 of his 34 points after the half in a 78-73 overtime win at Wayne Memorial during a dominant senior year for the Eagles.

Basketball certainly runs in the Wade family. Brandon’s younger brother, Ryan, is off to a strong start in his freshman year at Holy Cross. His father, Keith Wade, was a standout guard at Toledo from 1987-91. He finished his career with 1,148 points and 560 assists in 119 games.
