Baseball: Skyline falls to Battle Creek Lakeview 2-1 in Regional semifinal
Battle Creek Lakeview scored a pair of runs in the first inning and made them hold up in a 2-1 win Thursday over Skyline in a Division 1 Regional semifinal game at Coldwater High School.
Battle Creek Lakeview advances to play Monroe in Saturday’s Regional final. The Trojans advanced with a 3-1 win over Woodhaven in a Regional semifinal game.
The Eagles finish the season as District champs and with a 17-15 overall record.
Skyline scored a run in the third inning but couldn’t push across anymore against J. Haywood who went the distance for Lakeview. He allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out nine.
Skyline’s Robert Hamman had a strong game on the mound. Only a sophomore, Hamman allowed just five hits and three walks while recording six strikeouts and was able to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
Landry Jobe (one RBI), Ryan Gensheimer (one run) and Mason Johnson had hits for Skyline.
The Eagles had four errors in the game while Lakeview was perfect in the field.
