B2B Trail Update: Delhi Metropark Trail Segment Ribbon Cutting
The Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI) recently announced the official opening of the newly complete B2B Trail segment in Delhi Metropark! Trail partners from Huron-Clinton Metroparks (HCMA), Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission (WCPARC), Huron River Watershed Council (HRWC) and Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI) safely gathered to celebrate this incredible trail progress that brings us closer to connecting to Ann Arbor.
Rebecca Esselman, Executive Director of HRWC, shared some thoughts on the importance of this project to the regional community.
“This project is fabulous,” said Esselman, “to have people accessing and enjoying the Huron River Corridor without having to be out paddling on the river is a wonderful asset to the community.”
Coy Vaughn, Director of WCPARC remarked that five to ten years ago, a project like this would be extremely challenging given the proximity to the river. “With the tremendous partners that we have from HCMA, Metroparks, and HWPI,” he explains, “it has really made such a difference and we have so much momentum now. There is no stopping us from building from Dexter to Ann Arbor and making the trail a crown jewel of the whole region!”
Construction on the first half of this project began in late fall and is already being enjoyed by the trail community. Construction on the second half of this trail segment, from Zeeb Rd. to East Delhi Road, will begin this winter.
