Around Town: Work in Ann Arbor parks; summer class registration begins; construction updates, more
Spend your summer working outdoors in the parks
We’re filling positions throughout the parks system at the outdoor pools, golf courses, canoe liveries and to work with our summer day camp students. There are also opportunities for volunteer outreach coordination with GIVE 365 and working within the Natural Area Preservation Program. To view the jobs and apply online visit the website.
It’s nearly the time to register for spring/summer classes and programs hosted in the Ann Arbor parks. This includes summer day camps, golf and swim lessons; canoe livery classes; special event programming; volunteer outreach opportunities with GIVE 365 and Natural Area Preservation and classes at the Ann Arbor Senior Center. On Monday, April 4 at 8 a.m. log onto www.a2gov.org/parksregister to sign up!
Short term construction projects planned in the coming weeks
Border-to-Border Trail (B2B)
There will be fiber conduit work on the B2B Trail near Dixboro Road, Monday, April 4 beginning at 9 a.m. The project will not block the path to traffic, but there may be short delays to users. Thank you for your patience.
West Park
• April 11-12: The pathway on the east end of the park will be temporarily closed while work to install a water hydrant, just south of the basketball court, is performed. The parking lot and all other areas of the park will remain accessible.
• April 13-15: The West Park parking lot entrance will be closed due to excavation in the road. All other areas of the park will remain accessible.
We need you! Learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities with GIVE 365
Check in with GIVE 365 for upcoming volunteer opportunities including the Earth Day Festival, Huron River Day (April 24) and Huron River Day (May 15). Lend a hand, give your time to help beautify and clean up a park that needs a little love and attention. All volunteers must register prior to the workday. Register by contacting volunteer@a2gov.org or call 734.794.6445.
* Wednesday, April 6, 3-5 p.m. Love a Park Day at Riverside Park
Help us welcome spring with a workday by the river. We will be preparing the playground for play by spreading fibar, as well as removing invasive shrubs from the periphery of the park. It will be a little mucky so bring boots that can handle some mud! Tools will be provided.
* Saturday, April 16, 10-11:30 a.m. Veterans Park trash-a-thon event
Form a team of two to four people, and the team that collects the most trash will win a prize! Veterans Memorial Park 2150 Jackson Road.
Counselor In Training (CIT)
There are opportunities for students ages 14-16 to volunteer this summer at the day camps at Fuller and Buhr park pools as well as the Gallup Canoe Livery camp. Visit the Youth Volunteer Opportunities page for details. Orientation for the CIT program is Thursday, May 26 at Fuller Park. Stay tuned for additional information.
