Garlic mustard weed-out week
This event takes place now through Sunday, May 30 (sunrise to sunset). Garlic mustard is an aggressive invasive plant that can quickly crowd out native plant species and decrease biodiversity in the woods. Identifying and pulling garlic mustard is fun and easy for all ages, making this a great volunteer opportunity for families. Community members are invited to survey their own yards to find and remove target species and spend some time pulling in local City of Ann Arbor nature areas. Visit www.a2gov.org/gmwow for information.

Shop all weekend at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market
Service animals welcome, no pets allowed. Please follow posted safety guidelines. For more information, visit www.a2gov.org/market.

The Ann Arbor Farmers Market (AAFM) features farm-fresh produce and more for the community every week. Shop Saturday, May 29, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. The gathering place for more than 130 local businesses, the producer-only market offers fresh, seasonal vegetables, premier Michigan fruits, native and ornamental plants, vegetable and herb starts, flower bouquets, mushrooms, artisanal cheeses and breads, baked goods, fresh-picked vegetables, honey, slow-roasted coffee beans, cut flowers, maple syrup and so much more.

Sunday, May 30, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., is Ann Arbor Flower Day. The AAFM is combining with the Sunday Artisan Market to offer this special flower day sale and celebration. Kerrytown will be in bloom! AAFM growers will offer a premium variety of flowers, plants, bulbs, seeds, seedlings and herbs at value prices — shoppers are advised to come early for the best selection.

Canoe, kayak and more
Starting Memorial Day weekend, the Argo and Gallup liveries will be open every day 9 a.m.–8 p.m. for boat rentals and river trips. We are now just requiring boat reservations for the 3.7-mile and 5.7-mile river trips paddling down a current and requiring van transportation. Stillwater paddling, without a current in 2-mile Argo or Gallup Ponds, no longer requires a boat reservation.

  • The Argo Livery offers the 3.7-mile river trip every day 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and stillwater paddling on 2-mile Argo Pond every day 9 a.m.–6 p.m., with all boats due back by 8 p.m.
  • The Gallup Livery offers the 5.7-mile river trip every day 9 a.m.–noon and stillwater paddling on 2.5 mile Gallup Pond every day 9 a.m.–6 p.m. with all boats due back by 8 p.m. Available boats to rent are double kayaks, single kayaks, kid kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards and paddleboats.

Volunteer with GIVE 365
Join staff Wednesday, June 2, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park Pool to help mulch and tidy up the landscape. For details or to register go online.

Sunday, June 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. We are looking for volunteers to help assemble a shed to store tools for Bandemer BMX work days at the Bandemer Park Dirt Bike Track. There are volunteer plans to make improvements to the bike track this summer so one of the first goals is to assemble a shed for storing equipment and tools needed to reshape and upgrade the current track. Let us know if you can help for any amount of time during our scheduled work day. Email volunteer@a2gov.org for details, questions or to sign up!

Project updates
The Gallup Park Loop Trail resurfacing project wrapped up a week early and is ready for use Memorial Day weekend. Please stay on the asphalt path while the grass edge fills in and grows. Additionally, the basketball courts at Southeast Area Park and Leslie Park have recently been paved and are open for use! Courts will be striped and painted in the coming weeks once the asphalt has had time to fully cure.
