AAPS officials release statement regarding Huron football team; next two games cancelled

On Tuesday, October 6, we were made aware of a probable COVID-19 case in a person associated with the Huron Varsity Football team. We took action by immediately reporting this information to the Washtenaw County Health Department (WCHD). On Wednesday, October 7, the case was confirmed.

Due to the timing of potential exposure, the WCHD has advised that all student-athletes affiliated with the Huron Varsity Football team quarantine until Saturday, October 17. In keeping with this recommendation, all Huron varsity football team activities, including Friday’s game against Ypsilanti and next Friday’s game against Adrian, have been cancelled.

In addition, Pioneer football team activities have been suspended, due to potential contact during their game with Huron last Friday. We continue to work through a contact tracing process with members of the Pioneer football program in partnership with the Washtenaw County Health Department.

In accordance with HIPAA and FERPA laws, health information is private, and we will not be sharing specifics about the case.

We continue to remain in close communication with the Washtenaw County Health Department throughout this process. As advised by the WCHD, we have communicated that all athletes and coaches should monitor themselves closely for symptoms of COVID-19, anyone with even mild symptoms should be tested, and other individuals should consult with a healthcare provider and consider being tested.

For more information regarding COVID-19, individuals should contact their healthcare provider or the Washtenaw County Health Department at l-wchdcontact@washtenaw.org or (734) 544-6700.
