AAPS: King students reflect on body image and diversity through `The Best Part of Me’ writing project

Hands that feel.  Hair that curls. Feet that run.

Lisa Teshima’s second graders at King Elementary were encouraged to think of themselves in a positive light during a writing exercise in which they reflected on the physical parts of themselves that they like best.

Inspired by photographer Wendy Ewald’s book “The Best Part of Me,” Teshima took black & white photos to accompany their work, which she displays outside her classroom.

“This project was a fun activity for students to celebrate themselves through photos and writing,” said Teshima. ” Some students found it difficult to decide their best part.  One student said he just chose randomly because all of his parts were the best.”
