A2ZERO Celebrates One Year Closer to Achieving Carbon Neutrality Goal with Week of Community Events
May 27, 2021 – June 1, 2021, marks the one-year anniversary of the City of Ann Arbor’s plan to achieve a just transition to community-wide carbon neutrality, known as A2ZERO.
To commemorate this event, the city has organized a weeklong (June 1-6) series of more than 20 online and in-person family-friendly events to learn more, get involved and have fun while working collectively to achieve a more just and sustainable future. A full calendar of events is online.
A highlight of the week will be Climate, Justice, and Resilience: A Chat with Andrew Wishnia, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Climate Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). This online event takes place Friday, June 4, 10:00-11:00 a.m., and will include a presentation and moderated question-and-answer session exploring USDOT efforts around climate and equity, and how Michiganders can get more involved. To attend this free session, follow this live link at 10:00am on June 4. A recording of the session will be available to view later. This session is being co-sponsored by the Michigan Office of Climate and Energy, the Michigan Climate Action Network, and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
“We are beyond excited to discuss climate and transportation policy at the federal level and its implications for local communities with Deputy Assistant Secretary Wishnia,” said Ann Arbor Sustainability and Innovations Manager Missy Stults. “Addressing the climate crisis necessitates actions across all scales along with deep collaborations. We are thankful to have a collaborator in our federal government.”
Also during A2ZERO Week, the community is invited to celebrate Ann Arbor Green Fare June 1–6, which showcases local, sustainable, plant-based menus, approaches to carryout and other business operations from a variety of merchants. Learn more at www.a2gov.org/GreenFare. On Sunday, June 6, the community is encouraged to get involved by participating in the A2ZERO Week Day of Service. See all of the ways to help out – from volunteering with a local organization or event to donating at a food bank.
