Swimming: Pioneers are up to the latest challenge, dunk Northville
The Pioneer swimming and diving team continues its rollercoaster season – as in dropping times and rising in wins. Following an easy 153-22 win over SEC rival Monroe earlier in the week, the Pioneers faced a little tougher completion on Saturday when they welcomed Northville to Ann Arbor for a non-league dual-meet.
The Mustangs are a good team but the Pioneers are at a whole different level and secured a 115-71 victory to remain undefeated on the season.
Pioneer set the tone in the meet’s first event by taking first and second in the medley relay. The team of Quoia Sam, Amelia Weyhing, Lindsay Orringer-Hau and Lily Cramer took first in 1:48.48 followed by the team of Autumn Bullinger, Edwina Jalet, Sophia Guo and Yan Yee Adler in second in 1:50.83.
Pioneer’s Stella Chapman won the 200 free 1:54.02. Vivian VanRenterghem was fourth in 1:58.77.
The Pioneers swept the top three spots in the 200 IM with Jalet in first (2:10.24), Cramer second (2:10.37) and Guo third (2:17.18).
In the 50 free, Bullinger was second (24.96) and Weyhing third (25.02) with Allison Yadmark sixth (27.03) for Pioneer.
In diving, the Pioneers splashed home the first three spots. Alexandra Mercier landed first with 237.85 points followed by Jordan Marion (193.05) and Natalie Mello (185.25).
Orringer-Hau touched second in the butterfly in 57.53 with Jalet in fourth in 1:00.79 and Eva Woods seventh in 1:04.25.
In the 100 freestyle, VanRenterghem was second (54.91), Guo third (55.21) and Sam fourth (55.67) for the Pioneers.
Chapman took second in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.63 with Adler in third in 5:24.30. Cassidy Spisak was seventh (6:11.09) and Kate Lindstrom eighth (6:13.22).
The Pioneer team of Bullinger, Weyhing, VanRenterghem and Cramer took first in the 200 free relay in 1:39.81. The team of Woods, Yadmark, Piper Campbell and Chapman was third in 1:47.10.
In the backstroke, Orringer-Hau took first (58.93), Sam was second (1:00.46) and Bullinger touched third (1:00.59) for Pioneer.
Cramer won the backstroke in 1:06.85 with Weyhing third (1:08.68) and Adler fourth (1:09.78).
The Pioneer team of Chapman, Guo, Orringer-Hau and VanRenterghem took second in the 400 free relay in 3:36.62.
