Cross Country Roundup: Pioneer, Huron sweep Saturday dual-meets
Rachel Forsyth and Cookie Baugh went one-two to help run the Pioneer girls’ cross country team to a 18-37 victory over host Bedford on Saturday at Indian Creek Park.
Forsyth, a freshman, ran first overall with a time of 18:21.2. Baugh, a junior, ran second in 18:23.9.
After Bedford took third, Pioneer’s Charlotte Batra was fourth (20:05.2), Emily Cooper fifth (20:16.8) and Anna Dudek sixth (20:30.7). Pioneer’s Lauren Jamsen was 11th (21:38.4), Allison Nutt 12th (21:44.8) and Mia Berens 14th (22:22.0).
Pioneer Boys
The Pioneer boys’ team took the top five spots to knock off Bedford 15-47 on Saturday.
Three juniors were at the head of the finish line: Owen Johnson (16:20.5), Henry MonteSano (16:37.1) and Fred Wallace (16:57.2). Senior Ben Jackson was fourth (16:58.4) and sophomore Roman Cortina fifth (16:59.0).
Pioneer’s Kevin Dancey was seventh (17:11.4), Collin Melnykowycz was ninth (17:18.0), Garrett Kracht 10th (17:25.3), Levi Straszewski 11th (17:31.5), Eric Overdier 12th (17:36.6) and Vincent Peterson Sand 13th (17:36.7).
Huron Girls
The River Rats ran past Allen Park 24-32 on Saturday in a non-league dual-meet at Willow Metropark.
Huron took five of the top seven spots to secure the victory over the Jaguars. Senior Sam Hastie was second in 19:30.0 for Huron. Sophomore Rachel Overgaard ran fourth (21:44.), sophomore Mia Solomon was fifth (21:53.1), freshman Sonya Shelgikar was sixth (22:02.1) and junior Mari Park was seventh (24:03.7) for the River Rats.
Huron freshman Amelia Wu was 10th in 24:37.7.
Huron Boys
The River Rats raced to a 21-38 win Saturday over Allen Park in a non-league meet at Willow MP.
The Jaguars took the top spot but Huron ran off the next four places. Senior Donovan Smith was second (16:59.0), senior Peter Stenger was third (17:04.5), senior Michael Hill-Carruthers was fourth (17:10.1) and sophomore Adam Bigelow was fifth (17:14.6).
Huron freshman Lucas Weintraub ran seventh (17:37.6), senior Roman Quesada was ninth (17:48.4), senior Evan Ridenour was 10th (18:12.5), senior Calvin Shaw was 11th (18:12.6), junior Matthew Dowling ran 12th (18:39.4), senior Koen Van Nieuwstadt was 13th (18:41.5) and senior Lucas Reading was 14th (18:45.4).
