Swimming: Pioneer tops rival Skyline in SEC dual-meet action
Skyline head coach Maureen Murrett has seen some outstanding Pioneer swim teams over the years. She may have just seen the best EVER on Thursday when the Eagles landed at Pioneer for an SEC dual-meet.
The young and “extremely talented” Pioneers swam past Skyline 140-46.
The Pioneer team of Autumn Bullinger, Edwina Jalet, Lindsay Orringer-Hau and Vivian VanRenterghem took first in 1:49.98. The Pioneer team of Holly Pringle, Amelia Weyhing, Sophia Guo and Quoia Sam took second in 1:50.26. Skyline’s team of Shannen Lee, Sophia Nielsen, Claire Kozma and Erika Sauld took third in 1:56.58.
Pioneer’s Stella Chapman took first in the 200 free in 1:55.15, just out-touching Skyline’s Lily Cleason who took second in 1:56.50. Pioneer’s Guo was third (2:03.04) and Skyline’s Gina Sadler fourth (2:04.39).
Jalet went 2:10.83 to lead a Pioneer three-place sweep in the 200 IM. Yan Yee Adler was second (2:16.88) and Pringle third (2:16.97). Nielsen was fourth (2:24.02) for the Eagles.
Pioneer also took the top three spots in the 50 free: Lily Cramer (24.72), Weyhing (24.99) and Bullinger (25.10). Kozma was fourth (25.52) for the Eagles.
In a close splash for the top spot in diving, Pioneer’s Alexandra Mercier finished with 198.90 to edge teammate Natalie Mello (181.10). Pioneer’s Jordan Marion was third (169.75) and Skyline’s Payton Horning was fourth (158.15).
Orringer-Hau won the butterfly in 58.26 followed by teammates Jalet (1:00.22), Cramer (1:00.70) and Sam (1:06.58).
VanRenterghem won the 100 free in 53.77 followed by teammates Bullinger (54.71) and Guo (54.90). Kozma was fourth for Skyline in 55.53.
Adler went 5:15.96 to win the 500 free. Sadler was second for Skyline in 5:27.84. Eva Woods was third for Pioneer in 5:46.87 and Skyline’s Lauren Sloan took fourth in 6:06.38. Pioneer’s Cassidy Spisak was fifth in 6:06.64.
The Pioneer team of Weyhing, Cramer, Bullinger and Jalet was first (1:40.09) and the foursome of Chapman, Pringle, Adler and Woods was second (1:44.34). The Skyline team of Kozma, Ella Enrique-Shakespeare, Erika Sauld and Aly Guevara took third in 1:46.90.
Chapman returned to the winner’s circle in the 100 backstroke with a first-place time of 57.47. Orringer-Hau was second (59.23) and Cleason third for Skyline in 59.25. Pioneer’s Vivian VanRenterghem was fourth in 1:00.21.
Weyhing won the breaststroke for Pioneer in 1:08.50. Skyline’s Sophia Nielsen was second in 1:12.06 followed by teammates Miranda Nielsen (1:18.12) and Enrique-Shakespeare (1:18.12).
Pioneer (Cramer, Orringer-Hau, Chapman and VanRenterghem) won the 400 free relay in 3:36.93. Pioneer’s team of Guo, Adler, Woods and Sam took second in 3:53.76. Skyline’s foursome of Guevara, Kim, Lee and Cleason took third in 3:57.71.
