Profile: Local realtor honored for her work with Peace Neighborhood Center
Amy Schlecht Pachera is known around town as an outstanding real estate agent with Ewing Pros of Real Estate One in Ann Arbor. But there is another side of her that few people know about, and it has even more to do with home and family and neighbors than even the houses she sells or buys.
Schlecht Pachera has been involved with Peace Neighborhood Center since she was in early 20s, including as Board President. Peace Neighborhood Center has piloted and maintained programs for children, families, and individuals to promote self-sufficiency and positive community involvement.
Since 1971, Peace Neighborhood Center has provided critical services and opportunities to more than 16,000 people in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Through a wide range of comprehensive programs, Peace helps people discover options, enhance skills, and make choices that promote education, health, well-being, and fiscal independence.
“Being involved in my community is very important to me,” says Schlecht Pachera. “My passion is children – especially those with financial or social difficulties. I have been involved with Peace Neighborhood Center since I graduated from college. I started tutoring and was part of their version of the big brother/big sister program.”
Schlecht Pachera, who was Board Chair and served on the Board of Directors for many years, was honored in November during the 19th annual Thanks for Giving Dinner which featured 192 attendees and raised more than $100,000 for the organization.
Schlecht Pachera was honored for “helping to shape the growth of this agency for nearly two decades while assisting hundreds of individuals to change their lives for the better.”
In recognition of her tireless efforts on behalf of the children and families the organization serves, Peace Neighborhood Center presented Schlecht Pachera with their annual Tribute Award.
Schlecht Pachera has lived most of her life in Ann Arbor. “I’m a fourth-generation townie,” she says. “After college I worked for EDS for 14 years in CRM/management.”
She also owned a small business selling handbags and most recently was business partners in a small business, ThinkStretch. “It was an educational company specializing in ‘out of school’ time learning, summer learning and after school. We sold our program to schools and districts across the country.”
Schlecht Pachera is married to Tom Pachera, a teacher/administrator in Ann Arbor Public Schools. The couple has two “kind and amazing boys,” Nick, 18, a freshman at Butler University, and Zach, 17, a junior at Skyline.
