Coach Mack and the Huron football program score a huge victory
As six of his Huron football players took their seats and signed their letters of intent to play college football last month, Huron head coach Antaiwn Mack stood behind them and smiled with pride. In his first season at Huron, Mack and the River Rats won only one football game on the field but there are other ways to measure success.
And helping young student-athletes accomplish their goals of not only attending college but playing the game they love at the next level is near the top of the list.
Six Ann Arbor Huron High School football players signed that day and three others also will be playing college football next season. Sending nine players to play in college is certainly a huge victory for the Huron program – one certainly worth smiling about.
“This truly means a lot for the Ann Arbor Huron HS community and past alumni and the present student-athlete’s families,” Mack said. “To be able to receive athletic scholarships and academic scholarships is life changing for many student athletes who will be debt free coming out of college which is amazing. Many will eventually have families of their own and won’t have that college debt hanging over their head, and as a father or husband, that’s huge!”
Mack said he will continue to stress the importance of academics with all his players. “The Huron football program is moving in the right direction and our staff will continue to advocate for our students and student athletes,” he says. “As long as I’m here as the head coach I will do everything I can to help our students and student athletes get to the next level. It’s all about the students and student athletes.”
The Huron players took their SATs before the season started which helps give them a step up in the recruiting process. The players also stayed in shape for invite workouts which made it even easier for college coaches to evaluate their athletic skills.
“I truly love the fact that all nine of our student-athletes who will play at the next level had very high goals on where they wanted to play next year ranging from playing at a power five university to attending an Ivy League university,” Mack said. “Also, their families were on board with the lengthy recruiting process and understanding of the process, which helps tremendously.”
Here are the nine Huron football players who are planning on playing college football next season including those who signed on Feb. 19:
Aaron Winston (RB): Aaron is considering John Hopkins University, Butler University, Michigan Tech, Lawrence Tech, Valparaiso, Madonna, Bucknell and a few others.

Tyree Hill (LB): Wayne State University
Marcell Cooper (DT): Highland Community College or Urbana University
Aaron Garrett (DB): Hiram College, Olivet College or Ohio Northern University
Cameron Donell (ATH.): Olivet College or Arkansas Baptist College
Marquis Wilson (DT): Olivet College
Ryan Watson (DE): Madonna University or Hiram College
Darren Moore (LB): Morehouse College
